Dear activists -
Thanks to Peace Action's online activist network, over 2,100 email messages calling for a complete and total withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan were sent to President Obama this week! This is just the beginning. While President Obama has ordered the Pentagon to prepare plans for bringing all U.S. troops home from Afghanistan, it is an opportunity, not an end to America's longest war. Will you help me make the most of it? It's easy to see the administration simply waiting until after the Afghanistan presidential elections before making a final decision on troop levels, including leaving behind as many as 10,000 troops . And, it makes sense for the President to plan ahead, just in case zero is the only option. If you agree that zero is, in fact, the best option, we need to keep pushing for zero. Peace Action is working to make sure a strong public statement is made in favor of zero troops left behind. And, to accomplish that, we need your help. There's so much going on in the world at any given moment it's easy to understand how the public might not be seeing the recent news on troop levels in Afghanistan as an urgent matter. What about Syria? What about Russia? What about the budget? Peace Action can't simply 'move on' to its other priorities. We were one of the very first organizations to organize against plans to invade Afganistan in 2001. We will not rest until the last American is home.
